Both children and artists blur the lines between being and dreaming, which explains why they require very little to ignite their imagination and entertain themselves - and others. Carrying a bit of culture with him, the outsider brings some poetry to a rather unremarkable and somewhat inhospitable place and, for a brief moment, he manages to transcend the frozen pond, used as an improvised ice rink by local children. The whole world becomes a stage, and everybody is an audience. Similarly, as an all-encompassing form of performance, films are formidable carriers of culture; and film festivals are like gateways for their emotions to touch all hearts and for their messages to reach all minds.
