(Drone-Pia/JM) 동해안 7번국도 따라 강릉 가는 길 2탄/ Drive on the East Coast National Road No. 7

포항을 떠나 울진-장사리-죽변항-영덕강구항-삼척-동해항-정동진-강릉 경포대를 잇는 동해안 7번 국도길 동해바다로 떠오르는 일출은 동해바다 그 어디에서 보더라도 장관이 아닐 수 없다. 좌측으로는 수려한 태백산맥, 우측으로는 푸른 동해바다를 보며 북으로 향하는 7번 국도 길은 참으로 아름답다. 한적한 해안 길을 따라 돌다 보면 넘실대는 하얀 파도와 갈매기 울음소리를 벗 삼아 나지막이 정겨운 음악소리를 듣노라면 정말 기분이 좋아진다. 영덕 해맞이 공원 정상에 올라 하얀 등대에서 바라보는 주변의 풍경은 그야말로 절경이었다. 삼척항과 동해항을 거쳐 북으로 잠시만 드라이브를 하다 보면 어느새 드라마 '모래시계'로 유명한 절은 연인들이 넘쳐나는 정동진에 도착하게 된다. 위도상으로는 서울 도봉산의 정동 쪽에 있어〈한양(漢陽)의 광화문에서 정동 쪽에 있는 나루터가 있는 마을〉이라는 뜻으로 이름이 지어졌다. 신라 때부터 임금이 사해용왕에게 친히 제사를 지내던 곳으로 2000년 국가 지정 행사로 밀레니엄 해돋이 축전을 성대하게 치른 전국 제일의 해돋이 명소이기도 하다. 곧 다가오는 1월 1일 새해를 맞이하러 수많은 사람들이 열차를 타고 찾아 들 정동진역은 바다에서 가장 가까운 기차역으로 기네스북에도 올라있다. 정동진 해변을 따라 남쪽으로 걷다 보면 나지막한 언덕 위에 크루즈 배를 옮겨 놓은듯한 썬크루즈 호텔이 시선을 끈다. 정동진은 강릉에 인접해 있어서 주변 관광 후 숙박이나 식사를 위해 강릉을 찾는 관광객이 참으로 많다. 강릉 경포대는 경포호와 더불어 관동 8경의 하나로 예로부터 관광지로 유명한 곳이다. 코로나 시대를 맞이하여 한동안 출입을 금하기도 하였으나 서울에서 불과 2시간 30분이면 올수 있어서 지금은 외국 여행길이 막힌 수많은 국내 관광객들의 휴식처가 되었다. 깊어가는 가을, 설악산엔 붉은 단풍들도 어느새 땅에 떨어져 앙상한 가지들을 보이며 다가올 추운 겨울 차비를 하고 있는 모습이다. 마음만 먹으면 언제든지 2박 3일 또는 1박 2일로 여행할 수 있는 동해안 7번 국도 길은 옛 모습 그대로 향토스러움과 자연 그대로의 모습을 간직하고 있다. 2박 3일 짧은 일정이지만 눈과 입을 호강시키며 울적하고 답답했던 스트레스를 한방에 날릴 수 있었던 상쾌한 여행길이었다. The beautiful Taebaek Mountains on the left and the blue East Sea on the right, National Road No. 7 heading north is truly beautiful. When I drive on the quiet coastal road, I feel really good not only when I listen to the soft music but also while roaring white waves and the cries of seagulls. After climbing to the top of Yeongdeok Sunrise Park, the surrounding scenery from the white lighthouse was truly superb. After a short drive north through Samcheok Port and Donghae Port, the famous for the drama 'Hourglass' arrives in Jeongdongjin, overflowing with lovers and family tavelers. In terms of latitude, it is located on the Jeongdong side of Dobongsan Mountain in Seoul, so its name means “a village on the east side of Gwanghwamun in Hanyang(old name of Seoul)”. It is the place where the king personally held a ritual to the Dragon King of the Dead Sea since the time of Silla(about 1500 years ago) , and it is also the best sunrise spot in the country where the Millennium Sunrise Festival was held in a grand event as a nationally designated event in 2000. Jeongdongjin Station, where many people come by train to welcome the upcoming New Year on January 1, is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the closest train station to the sea. If you walk south along Jeongdongjin Beach, the Sun Cruise Hotel, which looks like a cruise ship moved on a low hill, catches your eye. Since Jeongdongjin is adjacent to Gangneung, there are many tourists who visit Gangneung for accommodation or meals after sightseeing. Gangneung Gyeongpodae, along with Gyeongpoho Lake, is one of the eight sights of Kwandong(East region) and has been a famous tourist destination since ancient times. Due to the corona era, entry was banned for a while, but it can be reached in just 2 hours and 30 minutes from Seoul by car or train, so it has become a resting place for many domestic tourists who are now blocked from traveling abroad. In the deepening autumn, red maple leaves on Mt. Seorak suddenly fall to the ground, revealing bare branches, and it looks like they are preparing for the cold winter to come. The East Coast National Road No. 7, where you can travel for 3 days 2 nights or 2 days 1 night, if you want to, retains its local charm and nature as it was in the past. It was a short trip for 3 days and 2 nights, but it was a refreshing trip where I was able to blow away the stress of being depressed.
