Background introduction /背景介绍 The fact that departure from Daejeon at 0:50 in the song is that in February 1959, the 33rd train (steam locomotive) opened. This local train left Seoul Station at 8:45 pm, arrived at Daejeon Station at 0:40, and departed again for Mokpo at 0:50. The time was changed in just one year, and from 1960, it was changed to 3:05 am from Daejeon. The lyricist Choi Chi-soo, who wrote this song, had an unusual history of working as a train attendant. Composer Kim Boo-hae said he received the lyrics and completed the song in three hours. In 1963, a movie titled “Departing Daejeon at 0:50” was released, and 'Daejeon Blues' was inserted as the theme song. It is a blues song with the theme of farewell drawn through a sad narrative told from the point of view of an itinerant worker having to leave his girlfriend behind because now he has to take a different, low-budget night train to a different, low-budget city. The song has become an immortal masterpiece representing Daejeon.
