늦은 밤, 조용히 청자를 만들 준비를 합니다. 청자를 만드는 장인은 숨을 고르고, 고운 점토에 손을 댑니다. 장인의 손은 바쁩니다. 반죽하고, 주무르고, 빚기를 수백 번, 수천 번... 장인의 손길과 조각칼을 따라 여러 가지 새, 동물, 식물도 그 형태가 갖추어집니다. 형태가 완성된 그릇들은 가마 안으로 들어갈 순서를 기다리고 있습니다. 이제 불을 견뎌내면 보이지 않던 푸르고 반짝이는 빛깔을 갖게 될 것입니다. 장인의 손길로 다듬어지고 가마의 불길을 거쳐, 조각된 선들에 푸른 유약이 채워지면서 열에 하나 건 진 청자. 이 청자에는 푸른 생명력이 가득합니다. 완성된 청자는 주인을 만날 설렘을 안고 조창으로 옮겨집니다. 갖가지 물건들과 함께 바닷길 여정을 기다립니다. 물결이 잔잔하고 바람이 적당히 부는 맑은 날, 돛을 펴고 항해를 시작하지만 때로는 거친 파도에 배가 부서지기도, 길을 잃기도 합니다. 함께 실린 상형청자들도 이들과 운명을 함께 합니다. 상형청자는 개경을 비롯해 임시수도 강화, 각지의 사찰 등으로 이동합니다. 고려 사람들은 상형청자를 사용하면서 감상하기도 했습니다. 고려인들의 일상이었던 차 문화와 함께하기도 했고 왕실과 귀족의 개인 공간에서 문방구로도 사용되었습니다. 고려 사람들의 삶 속에서 상형청자는 늘 함께했습니다. 때로는 신앙의 대상이 되기도 하였고, 의례용 그릇도 만들어졌습니다. 바다 속에 가라앉거나 무덤에 주인과 함께 묻힌 상형청자들은 천여 년의 세월을 거쳐 세상에 다시 나왔습니다. 금이 간 곳을 붙이고, 이물질을 닦아 오늘날 다시 빛을 보게 됩니다. 이토록 아름다울 수 있을까요? In the stillness of a late night, preparations for crafting celadon quietly begin. The artisan takes a deep breath and touches the fine clay. With skillful hands, the artisan kneads, molds. Repeating this process hundreds, even thousands of times... Following the artisan's touch and the strokes of the carving knife, various shapes of birds, animals, and plants take form. The shaped celadons are waiting for their turn to enter the klin. Once they endure the intense heat, they will reveal the hidden, glimmering greenish hues. The artisan's meticulous touch, combined with the klin's flames, fill the carved lines with a vibrant greenish color glaze. Amidst the fire, a single piece out of ten is brought to life, brimming with vivid vitality. The finished celadon, with the excitement of meeting its owner, is transported to tribute granary along with various other goods. On a clear day with gentle waves and a light breeze, the sails unfurl as the journey begins. Yet at times, rough seas cause them to lose thier way or even break the ships. And the sculpted celadon shares the same fate. These celadon pieces are transported to Gaegyeong (The capital) and other locations like Gangwha (temporary capital), as well as various temples. The people of Goryeo admired and used sculpted celadon in their daily lives. It was a part of the tea culture that was central to their routines. In the royal court and aristocratic spaces, it was used as stationery and other functional items. Sculted celadon was ever-present in the lives of the Goryeo people. It sometimes served as objects of worship or ritual accouterments. Some sculpted celadon pieces that sank beneath the sea or were buried in tombs with their owners have resurfaced after a thousand years. Cracks are mended, impurities are cleaned off. And today, they once again shine with their original beauty.
