Characters: Narrator Gerda Kai Snow Queen Grandmother Little Robber Girl Crow Reindeer (Bae) Flowers (ensemble) Snowflakes (ensemble) Act 1: The Magic Mirror Scene: A cozy cottage Grandmother is seated in a rocking chair, Gerda and Kai sit on a rug near her Narrator: Long ago, in a faraway land, there were two best friends, Gerda and Kai They lived next door to each other and loved hearing Grandmother’s stories Grandmother: (holding a book) Once upon a time, there was a magic mirror made by an evil troll It made everything good look ugly and everything ugly look worse Kai: That sounds scary! What happened to it? Narrator: A shard of the magic mirror had entered Kai’s eye and heart Slowly, he began to change (Enter Snow Queen, gliding across the stage in icy elegance ) Snow Queen: (to Kai) Come with me, little one I’ll show you wonders beyond your imagination Kai: (entranced) Yes, I’ll go with you (Snow Queen takes Kai by the hand and exits Gerda runs after them, but they vanish ) Gerda: Kai! Where are you? (Lights shift Enter Little Robber Girl in a camp ) Robber Girl: I’ll let you go if you take my reindeer, Bae He’ll take you to the Snow Queen’s palace Gerda: Thank you!
